Today we interviewed the awesome and wonderful Porcelain Boy!! They were so lovely and we engaged in conversations about the Sydney music scene as well as the recent closure of Divine Playhouse, which they were set to play at. We talked about their recent EP "wanting with an open wound" as well as upcoming music they have coming out this year. We also played one of their older tracks Area 44 and discussed the origins of this song.
MUBI MONDAY
This MUBI Monday, Sabine and Darcey talked about "Persepolis" directed by Marjane Satrapi. This beautiful animation deals with topics such as war, love, and identity, and has been hugely impactful across the world. This is our final film for our Mubi month of Women directors.
STANDOUT MOMENT
Sabine's standout moment was when lead character Marjane is dancing to Eye of the Tiger. The juxtaposition between the scene before and this moment is definitely jarring, but appreciated as it brings a little joy into an overall sad film.
Darcey's standout moment is when Marjane decided to divorce her husband. What is such a little moment in the film is such a life changing decision for her. It's a small moment in a sea of small moments throughout the film that make such an impact yet are so simplistic.
