Discussing the ever controversial Titane (2021), directed by Julia Ducournau. The Palme D’or winner highlights the extremes of genre-mates previous all while giving the audience a perverse feast for the eyes. It hits every plot point you’re wishing it wouldn’t, and then makes you almost happy to witness it.
I LOVE this film. I completely agree with Little White Lie’s review that it is nothing short of a blast. The almost-wink to the camera after every crunch and beat makes a far more compelling and artistic tale of mechanophilia than I expected.
“Exploding in a gnarled helix of chrome and flesh, Julia Ducournau’s Palme d’Or–winner is a jaw-dropping blast of Cronenbergian gothic. Conceptually audacious and dripping with insouciant attitude, Titane ignites a Molotov cocktail of gender politics, familial compassion, and female desire.” - mubi
