Continue is the latest from experimental Sydney group Scattered Order [available on wax at Repressed Records in Newtown]. It's noisy, dubby post-punk, "in loving dedication" to member Michael Tee who passed away last year. They've been around since the 80s and were signed to Volition Records, in the company of Severed Heads, Future Sound Of Melbourne and Itch-E & Scratch-E - a project of Paul Mac and Andy Ranzten, the latter being a longstanding member of ambient / dub / DIY group Pelican Daughters. In August they returned after a 15 years with It's Time My Friend.
Rantzen and Sheriff Lindo, occasional member of Pelican Daughters, feature on Clan Analogue compilation Jaunt: Bass Heavy Excursions in Time and Space, a V/A that does just what it says on the packet. I remember having to buy it on iTunes to get my hands on it after hearing Nahar [Paramat] play a song from it one Saturday morning on Limbs Akimbo.
1994 album Itch-E Kitch-E Koo was re-released last year in celebration of its 30th birthday. When Sweetness & Light [one of the finest rave tracks to come out of Sydney] off the album won Best Dance Release at the ARIAs, Paul Mac thanked the ecstasy dealers of Sydney in the acceptance speech, censored in the official Youtube video. The Presets' Kim Moyes was involved in the remastering of the record; local club stalwart Rydeen has remixed it; it's a release that has touched generations of Sydney.
Somewhere between the techno of Itch-E & Scratch-E and electro / house of F.C. Europa is The Blue Hour. It's light and dreamy, lovely home listening; Chambers Of The Palace in particular reminds me a little of Selected Ambient Works I.
Not much was to be revealed about F.C. Europa, a seemingly single-album project. The wonderfully weird and playful Breakfast at Rubbernecks speaks for itself.
Andy Rantzen's bandcamp has hours and hours of music to check out - much of it at name-your-price.
