I chat to FREDDY about their new album - Fred the Conquerer. Freddy makes music like they’re trying to crack open the sky, the earth and part the sea - all in an effort to let something honest fall and spill out.
She’s a multidisciplinary artist based in Sydney, who is weaving together theatre, sound, storytelling, which has a kind of gentle chaos that leaves you standing there absolutely dumbfounded and gobsmacked. Her sound is intimate, yet confrontational, cinematic and sometimes even a little bit feral - kinda like the voice inside my head on a Friday night, HAHA.
Listening to Freddy’s music isn’t just aural, it’s physical - you kind of inhabit it… are engulfed by it. It’s queerness and catharsis wrapped in distortion, melody, and memory.
