Tonight, 'Not-so-simple simple songs' is the theme. It’s my main musical interest. Maximising a restrained palette, mostly acoustic, music with little adornment but character that comes through via imperfection, subtlety and nuance, unusual and inventive playing, harmonising, direct and poignant lyricism. The theme itself came to me via a lyric from Jason Molina who is also one of my biggest reference points for not-so-simple simple songs – we’ll hear from him, too.
