I’m writing an album at the moment. I write slow, I get stuck often. I signed up to the daily emails from Poetry Foundation which is a site I rely on a lot for finding ideas and words and phrases, and the work of hundreds or thousands of poets across the world and the ages. This lovely short poem came into my inbox the other day from Indian-American poet Shireen Madon, Vessel with Two Feet, ca. 1000–800 BCE. The final line, 'a nest in a cracked plant pot' made me think about music that’s gentle but strong, perhaps songs that start one way and end another, maybe fragile and then totally destructive. I'll play music on that theme tonight.
