Surfacing is dedicated to experimental and outsider songwriters and composers exploring interesting musical territories.

Reading this fiction book at the moment, Self-Portrait with Russian Piano by Wolf Wondratschek. It's a bit weird but interesting, about an acclaimed composer towards the end of his life who becomes unable to tolerate the sound of applause. He works only at night, saying "whatever is played before midnight sounds like nothing". Which made me wonder what making music late at night inherently does to the music. So tonight I'm playing music that sounds best after midnight (or 11pm at the earliest), music that can maybe only be made after midnight, and music that sounds different if you listen to it after midnight.
