Music, sounds to nourish each other to be able to appreciate what are we fighting for, not just what we’re fighting against.
An hour with our radio cousin Roukaya from Salaam Radio on 3CR Radical Radio. Music for exploration, defiance, and catharsis, play. Sonics as part of our tools available for transformation and grounding amid a broader reality of injustice, violence.
Roukaya is a writer, translator, cultural worker, film programmer, and broadcaster based on unceded Wurundjeri Country. She co-hosts Salaam Radio on 3CR, spotlighting music and stories from the Middle East and North Africa, and co-founded حركة Harakat, an Arabic-language DIY cinema program in Naarm.
Her work unfolds alongside Arabic-speaking communities, combining listening and writing practices to rethink nostalgia, question assumptions about meaning-making, and create space for exploration, defiance, play, and poetics that carry communities forward.
