Today’s guest is comedian and disability advocate Madeleine Stewart. With her trademark pink hair and theatrical flare, Madeleine has made a name for herself by bringing her disability experience and advocacy centre stage in her comedy.
Madeleine is creator of “Crips and Creeps”, an accessible comedy show featuring Australian comedians with a disability or chronic illness.
In 2024, Madeleine was awarded the ABC Storyteller Scholarship as well as the Stella Young Award which recognises “young Australian disabled artists for their impact on disability activism”.
If you’ll be in Sydney this July you’ll be able to catch Madeleine Hosting “Bondi from the Barber’s Chair” at this year’s Bondi Festival!

This episode was produced and edited by Zaity Salman. Out of the Box is recorded at the fbi station in Redfern, which is on unceded Gadigal Land. We pay our respects to Gadigal elders past and present and recognise the ongoing colonial violence committed across this country. Wherever you’re tuning in from in so-called Sydney, the land always was, always will be, Aboriginal land.
