21 hard-hitting tracks celebrating queer diasporic sounds and working-class dance genres from across East and Southeast Asia.
This compilation serves as a love letter to the vibrant communities found everywhere from skewer cart line-dances to bottle-service clubs,
celebrating through tradition, survival, and solidarity. Rooted in scenes that thrive via viral trends, Y2K social media groups, and bootleg
CD distribution, these tracks represent a new generation of artists reclaiming and remixing the sounds they grew up with into something
distinctly ESEA.
The collection centers a diverse array of ESEA genres, including taike, manyao, funkot, thaibeat, indobounce, vinahouse, budots, lakhouse,
fengtau, bokko, and j-core. These sounds are interpolated with the textures of a new generationsβ FYPs and the high-energy pulse of club
music from throughout the Global Southβincorporating elements of makina, guaracha, jersey club, baile funk, grime, and garage.
By spotlighting these genres, Bootleg KTV aims to counter the cultural elitism of Eurocentric Western institutions and lift global visibility for
diasporic kin to reconnect and build upon our musical and cultural lineages. This compilation stands as an unabashed declaration for our
