Greetings, introducing our Bento Box artist of this week, HARU NEMURI, the stage name of Haruna Kimishima, a Japanese singer-songwriter, a poetry rapper, and a composer from Yokohama with musical influences ranging from J-pop, rap, post-hardcore, experimental pop, art rock, and electronica, political conscious lyricism and a strong DIY spirit. Haruna started making music as a highschooler at 17 before beginning her career as HARU NEMURI when she was 21. HARU has since released three full-length albums, Haru to Shura in 2018, Shunka Ryougen in 2021 and ekkolaptómenos in 2025, preceded with two mini-albums in 2016 and 2017, Sayonara, Youth Phobia and Atom Heart Mother.
Ekkolaptómenos, her debut release as an independent artist and latest album, sources its title from the Greek ekkolápto (meaning ‘to hatch’), a nod to the new music influences and philosophical concepts that were both introduced and subverted altogether. Lyrically and conceptually, the album is concerned with notions of power, authority and violence, legitimate, mythical, divine, or otherwise, and more specifically, the writings of Walter Benjamin and Michel Foucault.
