Mi Gente/My People Ft. Gustavo, Lukas Bedoya a.k.a NOVATO and Zoe Ortiz

14.06.26
Aired on 14.06.26, 2:00pm

Vanessa is joined by artists and tastemakers from La Minga as they prepare for their first event, Rakata.

RAKATA is a reggaeton night born out of La Minga, a Sydney-based cooperative dedicated to Latin underground culture. The intention is simple: to create a space where people can connect with reggaeton as what it actually is, Black music, diasporic music, music with roots and music for and from the people , while having an incredible night. We’re a horizontal team of DJs, artists and organisers who believe parties can be political and joyful at the same time.

Zoe is a queer artist originally from Argentina. Art has shaped and nurtured their life since the very beginning. With a background in photojournalism and visual storytelling, they work across experimental visual and interdisciplinary art, playing with identity, memory, belonging, and queer existence. They strongly believe art can build community, hold space for healing, and preserve histories, by opening paths for new ways of imagining ourselves, our present, and our futures.

They have always been involved in social creative events with a strong focus on community, activism, and collective expression. They are currently developing work around queer archives, community building, and multicultural, multi-expression creative practices.

Gustavo @Gustavo_chingo, one of the organisers behind RAKATA and La Minga cooperative. From Ecuador, event promoter, music junkie, overthinker, and professional mass agitator. Part of different collectives throwing parties with purpose in Sydney, and has participated in events across different parts of the world.
