Mumfighter and Ella stand side by side in the fbi music library

When he’s not cutting hair, yo-yoing, or going 150km/hr on his rollerblades in the backstreets of Marrickville, mumfighter is making glittery glitch-core beats for gremlins. Or discussing the unifying force of jorts.

“My first pair of jorts were a pair of Rustys from BIG-W. I hear people trying to be edgy and clown on them but at the end of the day, they’re just shorts dude.”

First and foremost a musician, mumfighter takes inspiration from electronica, punk, hyperpop and drain to create sounds that are probably a recession indicator. But Jarrah (mumfighter)’s ear-blistering glitch-core is a light in a world of expensive groceries and real life problems. His samples take you on a journey: grabbing you with relatability, (sampling fbi.radio on the title track of his latest album Chaos Magick) then throwing you out of your comfort zone with a Fortnite soundbite.

Formerly known as ‘lil coles’, mumfighter has been putting out music since 2019. After releasing music on Soundcloud and performing at cult Sydney party Sidechains, Jarrah graduated into glitch-core with Chaos Magick.

“I got heaps into media and music, like I'm doing now, because I’m addicted to stimulation… One day I decided to quit Dota 2, and I was freaking out because I had nothing to put my energy into. So I went outside and started doing dance videos (which I had never done before) and then started making music, instead of spending six hours on Dota 2.”

His upcoming project is a mesh of all that is good on the internet and more, overstimulating your mind and ears in the best way possible. But space is just as important as stimulation for Jarrah. Resonating with the fact that the biggest advantage nepo-babies have is boredom and time, he has some advice for independent artists:

“Scam your way into having some free time.”
