“I struggle to write happy songs.”
Dreamy alt pop, electronic R&B: Jewel Owusu brings the best of both worlds. A poet and producer, our latest Independent Artist of the Week dives into relatable emotional topics of love, betrayal and self expression.
Jewel explains her creative process starts with the:
“poems in my notes pages, and then I'll find them later, and then the song will kind of come out of that…So I feel like, naturally they're usually going to be sad topics, or vulnerable kinds of topics. I struggle to write happy songs.”
With her two recent singles ‘don’t let me go’ and ‘mouse’ these poetic lyrics find their proper place. The two tracks are set to be featured in a future project The End of Everything, exploring the upheavals of our youth. The heartbreaks and heartaches, the changes in our worldviews and everything in between. But Jewel affirms the necessity of these changes to grow.
“When you grow up and look back at those things in retrospect, you're like, actually that needed to happen.”
