Post punk meets indie rock in a handshake over the pool table at your favourite pub.
Meanjin-based band double date brings chaos and calm in a sound that demands you to chuff your ciggy and stomp it out.
Reminiscent of Dust and The Night Café, the four piece suit made up of Ellis Yunker, Ben Gerrard, Jett Ventrice, and Wes Maguire manages to work tangibly together to self-produce and piece together the all-consuming feelings of longing and isolation. A palpable combination of dreamy guitar riffs and harsher more guttural vocals, alongside punchy basslines and ethereal twinkles of snare.
You’re left longing for someone even if you’re not after listening to their 2025 EP, ‘in lampshade’. Tracks ‘nine’ and ‘cheryl lynn’ transported me to walking home after a big night noticing the stars and the street lights twinkling above me, slightly dreamy and buzzed. Then hit with a punch of a track like ‘say it again’ which just oozes playfulness and passion. Music for head rocking and hair shaking in its truest form.
Their newest release which came out in June this year, ‘new performance!’ really gives you something to chew on. Rough and ready. Just as punk rock should be.
