no ceremony unveils 'no ceremony', a collection of rich sonic mutations, much like the snow flakes that pass in the wind and cascade into the earth from above.
The thin slices of ice crystal ring like Jasper Craig Adams' stringent guitar that burns in the underglow of ‘something in the joinery’. The light reflects and moulds the flakes in the unmistakable tone of Hinano Fujisaki's saxophone. Never a snow flake the same, never a sonic offering the same. The duo of Hinano Fujisaki and Jasper Craig Adams, bring friction and melts uniformity around the frigid air. While snow flakes liquify in their wake, so does predictability. The icicles drip and fill onto the mouth of a cave. As these trickles from the sharp water spikes turn to flows, avenues of water aim and pour into the sullen pits of the cave.
A harsher mesh of string rivals on ‘the throb of a heart made of jelly’, and cradles the rippling saxophone that is surfacing the cavernous waterfall of sound. The cave spreads its tendrils underground, steering the impassioned vibrations into its dark edges. The title ‘the throb of a heart made of jelly’ stops the listener in their tracks, wobbly and iridescent. It brings to mind the softer edge of emotion, where wounds make holes, only repairing over time. These wounds taste the new erosion of sound as the meticulous treatments to the saxophone and the guitar quake, brightening and caressing the cave's dark tender geological veins.
As the chords bore through your mind, vastness is reached on ‘a way street of time’, your perception is elevated. You notice more mental time and space to dance with, endless possibilities abound. The subtle tremors of the guitar, chatter and teeter on the edges of your subconscious. The polarity between the saxophone and guitar feels visceral, guttural even. Spaciousness, opening and closing like the breathing mouth of the earth, setting down roots, yet free, finding unison and enabling connection. Moving with grace, the expanse of empty space.
Both on record and live, the duo spark the light of defiance. Jasper's bow slices his strings like a blade through cold sharp air, whilst Hinano's saxophonic whetstone, smoothly enables and glides. Both pushing, and sharpening each other's instrumental and interpersonal harmonic skills.
